About Barcodes.tools

Barcodes.tools makes and reads barcodes in the browser: eight common formats, files ready for print, batches from a list or CSV on label sheets, a camera and picture scanner, and a GS1 check digit calculator.

Who runs this site

Barcodes.tools (barcodes.tools) is operated by Anderson Gomes Ferreira. contato@barcodes.tools

How it works

Barcodes are drawn by bwip-js, an open-source port of Barcode Writer in Pure PostScript, and saved as SVG, PNG (with its print resolution written in the file) or vector PDF. Scanning uses the open-source ZXing library.

Everything runs in your browser. The data you type, the lists and CSV files you open, and the camera picture are not sent to our servers.

Check digits follow the GS1 method published by GS1, which the tests check against GS1’s own worked examples.

How we keep the content up to date

Each format page is checked against a test scan of the barcodes the site makes. The check digit tests use GS1’s published examples.

What this site is not

This site draws barcodes; it does not issue GS1 numbers, register products or verify print quality. For products sold in shops, get your numbers from your local GS1 office and test-scan a printed sample before a full print run.
